Spyget > How BitTorrent Works: Protocols and Structure

http://www.pctipsbox.com [Pc Tips Box] BitTorrent maximizes transfer speed by gathering pieces of the file you want and downloading these pieces simultaneously from people who already have them. This process makes popular and very large files, such as videos and television programs, download much faster than is possible with other protocols.

http://gigaom.com [Gigaom.com] GigaOM » BitTorrent, seeded, now waits for VC funds: In today’s Silicon Valley, there is so much cash sloshing around, that some of the smartest money managers on the planet, the guys who have turned more pennies into dollars than I can even dream off, aka Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins, are ready to pump in $8.5 million into a promise of an aging hipster’s ability to turn podcasting into a mega-business. Or that, another equally pennywise bunch is ready to invest a few million more, in another Podcasting start-up, Odeo.

http://blogs.ittoolbox.com [Blogs.ittoolbox.com] Bittorrent and data gathering via spyware: Generally spying on people is going to get this software labeled as malware in the longer run, another BitTorrent system that is well worth staying away from. But the data that it collects and posts to an otherwise non human readable page (go there and the page is blank) of course is going to want us to load it on a virtual desktop and sniff that puppy to see what is being sent back if anything using the URL as a filter.

Pcmag.comhttp://www.pcmag.com [Pcmag.com] Column from PC Magazine: The Scheme to Discredit BitTorrent ...: What Bram managed to figure out was a way to maximize throughput on P2P file distribution that went beyond server-centric methods, multicasting, edge buffering and all the other schemes that have come and gone. Moreover, this idea ends up not costing the person distributing the file a lot of bandwidth, because the file itself goes into the Net, becomes what is called a swarm, then uploads and downloads itself all over the place in bits and pieces from machine to machine.

http://www.xent.com [Xent.com] [FoRK] Avalanche vs. BitTorrent: What bothered me the most about this episode was that there was no reporting whatsoever regarding the BitTorrent as spyware claims or even the credibility of the renowned MVP Chris Boyd. It was basically parroting a leap-of-faith accusation in a blog that somehow developed into these eventual talking points: Use BitTorrent and you'll get spyware.

http://chrisholland.blogspot.com [Chrisholland.blogspot.com] Chris Holland: The Blog.: Dijjer: Future of Online Media Distribution?: Unlike with bittorrent, you didn't have to purchase a special hosting account at a BitTorrent provider (prodigem are cool guys), nor did you have to set-up your own BitTorrent server/tracker. You just uploaded the file to your web account, but instead of giving this url to your friends: http://someisp.com/youraccount/mymovie.mov , you gave them this url: http://dijjer.org/get/http://someisp.com/youraccount/mymovie.mov .
