Spyget > Nordea Bank target for malware | IceNews - Daily News

[IceNews - Daily News] YLE reports that Nordea has agreed to reimburse any monies lost by account holders in the scam, in which the malware causes a pop-up screen to appear on infected computers. This screen, similar in appearance to Nordea Netbank’s Finnish log-in page, is entirely in English and advises customers that the online service is currently undergoing maintenance.

[SPAMfighter News] Malware Attacking Online Customers of Nordea Bank: Elucidating the scam, the bank stated in its press release posted on January 15, 2010 that if a customer's PC has been infected by the malware, the Finnish login page of Netbank of Nordea displays in English. At the top of the page, there is some English text that claims that Netbank is currently under 24-hr maintenance and informs that all the services will not function as they normally do.

[YLE Uutiset | News] Malware Targeting Nordea Netbank Users | News | YLE Uutiset | yle.fi: If a customer's computer has been affected, the Finnish log-in page of Nordea's Netbank shows up in English, along with a note in English saying that the service is under maintenance. This is a con, however, and has been used to steal money from customers' bank accounts.

[Global Technology Forum] Russia: Educated fraud: It was one of these products that was used to extract around US$1.4m from 250 customers of Sweden-based Nordea Bank, the largest financial insitution in the Scandanavian and Baltic Sea region. The Nordea customers' details were stolen when they downloaded an attachment from an email that appeared to be sent from their bank.

[Schneier on Security] Schneier on Security: Huge Online Bank Heist: tcliu: You are right that it is not foolproof, but Swedbank at leasts takes two further security measures: First you have to go through another page and validate new "pay to" accounts using your pad before you can transfer money to them, so redirecting to another account would be difficult. Secondly, you must validate the sum of all your current transactions, so it is unlikely that you could redirect more than 100sek (unless the user is sloppy of course and does not notice that they are asked to validate "10000000" instead of "00010000")
